White House Tiny Desk AI Video Calls Democrats Washed Up

The White House Tiny Desk video hit the official White House account Monday, swapping Charlie Wilson and his band for AI generated versions of Democratic leaders to push the message that the party is washed up. The clip lifts Uncle Charlie’s 2023 NPR Tiny Desk performance of “Outstanding” and replaces the performers with likenesses of Kamala Harris, Ilhan Omar, Hillary Clinton, and what appear to be House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The post went up eight days before the November 3 midterm elections, when control of the House and Senate is on the ballot.

The format started in sports, not politics. “Outstanding” had been a go to TikTok sound for clips about washed up athletes since late 2025. On October 18, a TikTok account called @theburnerfromhe11 posted “College Football’s Week 8 All Loss Tiny Desk Concert,” an AI parody that put five head coaches whose teams had just lost into Wilson’s band. It passed 2.3 million views in a week. NFL accounts followed with their own versions, template sites started offering one photo generators, and by October 25 searches for the Tiny Desk AI trend had overtaken the Hotel Lobby AI trend on Google.

The joke works because everyone in the band just took an L and is singing their heart out anyway. By putting Democrats in that band, the White House Tiny Desk post uses a meme whose whole premise is that the people performing are losers.

The performance being parodied carries real weight in the culture. NPR released Charlie Wilson’s Tiny Desk in June 2023 as part of its Black Music Month series, and Black Twitter embraced it immediately, especially the moment Wilson turned “I’m Blessed” into a full praise break while thanking God for bringing him through addiction and homelessness. He closed the set with “Outstanding,” the Gap Band classic he made with his brothers Robert and Ronnie in the early 1980s. Snoop Dogg is the one who first called him Uncle Charlie, and the name stuck as Wilson became the go to voice on records for Kanye West, Tyler, the Creator, Nas and more.

No public response from Wilson or NPR has surfaced yet.

The White House and Trump’s own accounts have used AI videos to go after Democrats before. During the government shutdown fight in September 2025, Trump’s Truth Social account posted a deepfake of Jeffries wearing a sombrero and a fake mustache. A deepfake is a video made with AI that puts a real person’s face and voice on something they never did. Jeffries called the video racist, and Trump’s account answered by posting a second one.

In February 2026, Trump’s Truth Social account shared a video that showed Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt first defended it as an internet meme. Hours later the post was deleted, and the White House blamed a staffer who it said had posted it by mistake. Sen. Tim Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, said he was praying the video was fake because it was the most racist thing he had seen from this White House.

Washed up is also a familiar insult from this administration. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung used it on Jack White after the rocker criticized the gold heavy makeover of the Oval Office, calling White a loser with a stalled career.

The White House Tiny Desk clip now joins that list, this time borrowing one of the most beloved R&B performances of the last few years to do it.
