A pregnant woman was killed and six other people were wounded in a Spirit Halloween shooting inside a Northern California mall on Friday night, and police are still searching for the shooter. Gunfire broke out around 8:30 p.m. inside the Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center in Fairfield, a city about 45 minutes northeast of San Francisco.

Police identified the woman who died as 31 years old, and her family told investigators she was pregnant. At least three of the six people who were wounded are in critical condition, according to Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall. KTLA reported that three teenagers are among the injured.
On Saturday, the Fairfield Police Department said early evidence shows the shooting “stemmed from a targeted incident involving one suspect inside the Spirit Halloween store.” Police have not said who the shooter was targeting or why, and they have not released any information about a suspect.
No arrests have been made. Marshall said detectives are “diligently working to identify the suspect or suspects responsible for this horrific shooting,” and investigators are reviewing video footage from the mall. The FBI’s Sacramento office sent its evidence response team to help Fairfield police process the scene.
The store was full of people shopping for last minute costumes and decorations the night before Halloween. David Bernal told KCRA that his wife was inside when the shooting started and called him crying. She was able to escape with several other people through an emergency exit.
Police acknowledged that the shooting caused fear across the area, especially with Halloween events and trick or treating happening on Saturday. Because investigators believe it was a targeted attack, police have not said there is an ongoing threat to the public.
