Mia Thornton Faces Prison Time Risk in Furniture Theft Case

Former “Real Housewives of Potomac” star Mia Thornton is back in the headlines, but this time, her legal troubles could come with serious consequences. The reality TV personality is facing a felony theft charge over allegations that she and another individual removed thousands of dollars worth of furniture from a rented Atlanta condominium.

According to TMZ, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has filed a felony theft by taking charge against Thornton in connection with an October 2025 incident. Prosecutors allege that Thornton and her associate, Jared McGriff, took furniture and a television valued between $5,000 and $25,000.

The new filing puts the Mia Thornton furniture theft case back in the spotlight nearly a year after her arrest made national headlines. If convicted, the former Bravo star could face jail or prison time, although no conviction has been reported.

The allegations date back to October 28, 2025, when Thornton and McGriff allegedly moved out of a furnished condominium in Atlanta.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, investigators said the pair had been renting a luxury unit in the 700 block of West Marietta Street NW. The rental agreement reportedly required the furnishings to remain inside the property.

However, property management accused the pair of moving out during the middle of the night without giving notice and taking several items that belonged to the condo owner.

The reported missing property included a television, sectional couch, dining room table, seven dining chairs, accent tables, a floor lamp, patio furniture, and a fireplace remote.

FOX 5 reported that property management provided investigators with receipts, photographs taken before the tenants moved in, and additional documentation showing the missing items were valued at approximately $11,022.15.

The condo owner, who reportedly lived overseas, learned about the situation through property management. A police report was subsequently filed on November 6, 2025.

Investigators reviewed the allegations and obtained a felony theft by taking warrant for Thornton.

The Mia Thornton furniture theft allegations became public on November 19, 2025, when Atlanta police arrested the reality star at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

According to an official statement from the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to a wanted person call at the airport’s Customs and Border Protection office.

Authorities identified Thornton as the individual named in an active warrant connected to the alleged furniture theft.

She was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing.

Body camera footage released after the arrest showed Thornton interacting with officers at the airport. CBS News Atlanta reported that she acknowledged knowing about the outstanding warrant.

The following day, a Fulton County judge set Thornton’s bond at $2,500 after she waived her initial court appearance, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

Despite the headlines, Thornton did not immediately provide a detailed public explanation addressing the specific allegations.

Instead, she returned to social media around her 41st birthday with posts focused on resilience and personal growth.

Thornton captioned one of her birthday photographs:

“Composure over chaos. Grace over noise. This birthday, I’m choosing alignment, elevation, and elegance — always,”

Her message arrived as questions continued circulating about the circumstances surrounding the rental property and the missing furnishings.

Before the arrest, Thornton had already been navigating a major transition in her personal and professional life.

The reality personality joined “The Real Housewives of Potomac” during Season 6 and remained on the Bravo series through Season 9. Her time on the show included discussions about her marriage to Gordon Thornton, their separation, and changing family dynamics.

In April 2025, she announced that she would not return for another season and was relocating to Atlanta.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Thornton presented the move as an opportunity for a fresh start and new business ventures.

“This next chapter is already full of exciting opportunities, and I can’t wait to take you all along for the ride. Big things are coming…” she wrote at the time.

Months later, that new chapter became overshadowed by the furniture theft investigation.

The latest development marks another significant stage in the Mia Thornton furniture theft case, with prosecutors now pursuing a felony charge tied to the disputed property.

While the original police investigation placed the allegedly missing furniture’s value at approximately $11,000, the newly reported charging documents describe property valued at no less than $5,000 and less than $25,000.

The filing does not establish guilt, and Thornton remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

For Thornton, the legal dispute that began with a late October move from an Atlanta condo now carries the possibility of consequences far beyond reality television drama.
